More Nintendo Revolution details emerge

Submitted by: kirkland on Thursday March 10th, 2005 at 03:00 PM EST

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed some more information today on Nintendo's next generation console, code-named 'Revolution'. Iwata confirmed that the Revolution will be backwards compatible with the Nintendo GameCube, and will also feature Wi-Fi functions out of the box (no extra adapters to buy!).

Revolution's technological heart, a processing chip developed with IBM and code-named "Broadway," and a graphics chip set from ATI code-named "Hollywood," are being designed to deliver game experiences not possible to date.

"We're excited to be developing the graphics chip set for Revolution, which continues our longstanding relationship with Nintendo," says Dave Orton, ATI Technologies Inc.'s president and chief executive officer. "As the leading graphics provider, ATI is committed to delivering exceptional visual performance that enables consumers to interact with new and visually compelling digital worlds. ATI is proud to support Nintendo's innovative contributions to gaming."

will the old gamecube games work with the revolution?

It should be released sometime in 2006 and it will be backwards compatible so Gamecube games will work on it. Check out http://gaming.velozie.com/pages/nextgen or just click on 'Next Gen Consoles' in the menu to the left.

2006 is going to be a crazy year

If nintendo makes super smash bros. forthe DS it will be the best game. imagine super smash bros. on the internet that would be cool. Also the revolution is comming out early 2006 or christmas 2005. Also the rumor about the toucable control for the revolution would be a bad idea. They should keep the buttons and in the middle of the controler put a screen thats toucable. It should be a screen that displays the game on it and is the start and select buttons to adjust the controller and to pause the game. Also it should be wireless with a rechargeable battery.

Heres some insider info.Revolution is going to be completely wireless...INCLUDING the av connection and power cord.
If they pull through with this, Ill be amazed. WIRELESS POWER CORDS!!!WTF!?!?!(lol)It sounds impossible enuff, which is probably why nintendo wants to do it.also, the wireless controllers will not need batteries, because the GR wil send power to them(?)Sounds like a definite must have.

Wireless power cords eh... sounds like a lot... if they could actually pull it off (in our heads) it would be a great idea.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, but wireless power cords are virtually impossible. Being a physics student, inorder to have wireless power cords, it would just be a cable with a resistor monitoring power flow, but then it would send a signal to a battery which would then emulate the same amount of power. But the battery would run out, and that would be expensive and bulky and pointless. Is it that much a problem to have a power cord between ur console and the wall outlet? Or batteries in your wireless controller? However on the brightside, they DO HAVE WIRELESS AV CABLES AVAILABLE. Basically the cables go into a little signal sender which sends it to a receiver which goes back to RCA cables and into the tv. I have one called Leap Frog and it works great. Especially helpful with home theater pc's.

Nintendo has also denied that the controller will have a touch screen. This does not mean they denied innovative control styles, but have something entirely different as they hinted. Commenting on the Revolution, as Nintendo said: "Touching is good... but FEELING IS BETTER"
